This recording marks a long-anticipated and perhaps inevitable collaboration with Wende Harston and the Hank Troy Jazz Quartet. We are delighted with it and hope you will be too!
Wende and Hank met in Denver, Colorado, after a theatre performance in Five Points featuring her in the title role of August Wilson’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Soon thereafter she joined the Queen City Jazz Band, and as members of this popular group, Wende and Hank have enjoyed performing New Orleans-style Dixieland jazz for audiences around the country.
As a duo, they perform in concert venues and in casinos and clubs. Wende is an actress and singer who appears on stage and screen. Hank plays piano for silent films and musical theatre. Both teach music and both have been involved in the Harmony Project, an innovative integrated-arts program.
Hank’s quartet has been playing for many years, and it was a natural choice to accompany Wende in concert. Both Wende and Hank perform many musical styles, and on this recording you’ll hear swinging jazz, ballads, Latin, blues and boogie.
The venue is an auditorium located upstairs at the historic Town Hall in Littleton, Colorado, just south of Denver. The performers and the audience feel like they get to know each other in an intimate setting like this. We invite you to relax with us…and enjoy!
